Here comes Albert

Family and Friends,

We are pleased to announce that, today, we have made our contribution to the world's population, with the birth of our son -- Albert. Albert is born at Mercy Hospital in Melbourne at 7pm on the 8th day of 2008. He weights 3.2 kg. He and his mum are both in good condition. His parents and parents' parents and so on are all happy and content.

This marks the end of a long, difficult but exciting journey and, in the meanwhile, the beginning of an even longer, more difficult and more exciting journey. We named Albert after two of our deeply respected Nobel Prize laureates, one in early last century, Einstein, and one in the past 2007, Gore. They both reminded us of our humble position in the environment. The planetary climate crisis, man-made or otherwise, is something the next generation is bound to live and fight with. We wish him a nice stay in this wonderful world.

We also found with surprise that Albert shares the same birthday with two other legendary figures, Elvis Presley and Stephen Hawking. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Albert is the 6,642,661,854th human being currently living on this planet.

我们怀着愉悦的心情向大家宣布，今天，我们为世界人口增长做出了自己的贡献——我们的儿子Albert于新年的第8天19点顺利诞生于墨尔本的Mercy医院。他出生时的体重为3.2公斤。母子俩目前一切安康。

Albert的出世标志着一个艰辛漫长而又激动人心旅途的结束，同时，也拉开了另一个更为艰辛漫长与激动人心旅途的序幕。我们以两位我们深深敬仰的诺贝尔奖得主的名字来命名Albert，一位是上个世纪初获得诺贝尔物理学奖的伟大科学家——爱因斯坦；另一位是在刚刚过去的2007年获得诺贝尔和平奖殊荣的戈尔。二位都提醒了我们，人类只是浩瀚宇宙中微不足道的寄居者。全球气候危机对于Albert这代人来说将是前所未有的挑战，并将全方面地改变他的生活。我们衷心希望他能够尽情享受这个奇妙的世界。

另外，我们非常诧异而又惊喜地发现，Albert和另外两位传奇人物拥有同一天生日。他们是埃尔维斯·普雷斯利（猫王）和史提芬·霍金。根据美国人口调查局数据，Albert是这个星球上的第6,642,661,854个人类成员。
